Coach Kelly waiting on 'OK' for Golson to return to practice

NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- After Saturday's overtime victory over Stanford, the Fighting Irish are not turning their focus toward BYU.

Coach Kelly met with the media on Tuesday to discuss a number of things, including the status of starting quarterback Everett Golson.

Golson left Saturday's game against Stanford with a concussion and was replaced by Tommy Rees. Golson is undergoing tests by medical staff and has not yet been cleared to return to practice.

"There is a protocol. There are standards. They are independent of the head football coach," said Kelly. "This is strictly on our medical staff. They make all of those decisions and they come and tell me when he is ready to go."

Kelly said he is hopeful to have Golson back at practice Wednesday.

The Irish take on BYU Saturday at Notre Dame Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:40.
