College Goal Sunday at IUSB

College Goal Sunday will be held at Indiana University South Bend and the IU South Bend Elkhart Center. The event will offer assistance to families with college bound students.

College Goal Sunday originated in Indiana and is now a national program which helps students complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA.

College Goal Sunday starts at 2:00 p.m. at the Education and Arts Building at IUSB and at the IUSB Elkhart Center on Franklin in Downtown Elkhart.

The program is free and financial aid volunteers will help families file their future college student's FAFSA application online.

The FAFSA must be filed by March 10th and is required at most colleges for students to be considered for federal and state grants, scholarships, and student loans.

Today students under 24 should bring a parent or guardian.

A list of documents to bring include, a completed 2014 IRS 1040 tax returns, W-2 forms, and other 2014 income and benefits information. Students who worked last year should bring their income information as well.

Those who attend are encouraged to apply for a pin before the event at pin.ed.gov.

If families have not yet filed their 2014 federal taxes they are still able to file the FAFSA using estimated information.

Local students are encouraged to stop by the College Goal Sunday event. The goal is to make what may seem like an overwhelming task a little easier. The event ends at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
