Coloma schools placed on lockdown after reports of a weapon on campus

COLOMA, Mich. -- Coloma Senior and Junior High Schools were placed on lockdown Monday morning after officials received reports of a weapon on campus.

Coloma Township Police say at approximately 9:50 a.m., the school went into lockdown after several students observed another student possibly in possession of a small pistol in the Jr. High.

The high school was locked down as well because the schools are connected.  The lockdown at the high school was lifted around 11:45 a.m.

Officers say the incident appeared to be isolated and detained.

A weapon was not located during a search of the school.

Coloma Police and the Berrien County Sheriff's Department will continue to investigate.
