ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind.—The Community Foundation of St. Joseph County received a challenge grant on Monday night to support the Main Library renovation project.

The $3 million dollar challenge grant from the Judd Leighton Foundation will go towards the Main Library renovations set to begin in either November 2019 or the start of 2020. The project is scheduled to take between 18 to 24 months to complete.

The Judd Leighton Foundation will match up to $3 million in contributions made to the Community Foundation.

To make a gift to the Community Foundation:

  • Visit www.cfsjc.org/givenow
  • Mail to Community Foundation of St. Joseph County, P.O Box 837, South Bend, IN 46624

The Main Library will move existing operations into the unused Brown Intermediate building while the renovations take place.

The update will include expanding existing programming for teens, youth, makers in Studio 304, and the entire community. An outdoor courtyard will also be built on the same block to incorporate open air programming at the library.
