NOW: Community invited to upcoming engagement sessions for South Central Elkhart

ELKHART, Ind. - The City of Elkhart and the Greater Elkhart Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with the University of Notre Dame School of Architecture is inviting community members, organizations, and stakeholders on the city’s southeast side to participate in community engagement sessions about the City of Elkhart’s Thrive Plan.

It will be impacting the South Main, Tolson, and Benham West Neighborhoods. The first community engagement sessions took place Thursday August 3, and gave residents an opportunity to make their voices heard on several prompts.

“While we’re experts on cities, the local community is the expert on their own city. So, we need to hear what they love about their community, what can be improved, what’s the identity of the community?” said Marianne Cusato, the Director of the Housing and Community Regeneration Initiative who has overseen similar projects of cities in the past.

The feedback given at Thursday’s listening session as well as an upcoming session on Tuesday August 8 from 6:30 -8:30 p.m. at Roosevelt Steam Academy in Elkhart will be followed by presentation and review sessions and a final presentation before moving forward.
