Community members gathered Monday at Holy Cross Church in South Bend for a prayer vigil 24-year-old Vanessa Bautista and 23-year-old Alexa Navarro.

The women, who are both mothers, told a friend they planned to get food after dropping off the friend.

Family members said the last contact with the women was around Sunday at 3:41 a.m.

Family members told ABC57 that Bautista’s iPhone was last located in the Niles area through the Find My Friends feature.

Community members organized a search in Niles Monday as efforts to locate the women continued.

The disappearance has brought members of the South Bend-area community together to pray, distribute flyers and raise awareness about the case.

“It’s something that you would never think would come out in the community,” Sonia Perez said. “We see it on TV but it’s happening here locally.”

Perez said the community is focused on supporting the families and helping spread information about the women.

“To pray for the family, to pray for Vanessa and Alexa, to spread the awareness of the community, to hand out flyers and we’re just hoping for them to be returned safely to their family,” Perez said.

Community members also called on police and the public to continue searching for information that could help locate the women.

“Ask that the police not just let this case sit on the desk,” Dominique Bonilla said. “We just want answers and we just want them home where they can be home with their kids and with their families.”

Bonilla said the women were last seen traveling in a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The vehicle’s license plate is CGF426.

Community members distributed flyers during Monday’s vigil and urged anyone with information about the women or their vehicle to come forward.
