Community partners up to feed more than 1,000 people for Thanksgiving

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Ivy Tech Community College South Bend-Elkhart and the South Bend Empowerment Zone donated more than 250 Thanksgiving meals for student families. Each package was enough to give a family of four all the Thanksgiving favorites.

Schools to receive the meals were Navarre Middle School, Coquillard, Harrison, Warren, and Wilson Elementary.

Each of the meal packages included turkey, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and dinner rolls.

Cultivate Food Rescue donated $1,400 worth of food for the project and Katharos Catering in Niles prepared everything.

The meals were given out to students on November 23rd and 24th with a contactless delivery method.

“We are incredibly grateful to collaborate with such outstanding partners in our community who are student and family-focused, especially during such challenging times. We can’t thank everyone enough for their time and commitment to help bring joy this holiday season,” said David Balkin, Ivy Tech Community College South Bend – Elkhart Chancellor.
