SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Community members came out to Howard Park on Tuesday to celebrate Mardi Gras on the ice rinks at Howard Park.
From 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., local skaters enjoyed live music, Cajun catering and a cash bar.
Event organizers with South Bend Venues Parks and Arts are happy with the turnout of the event and are looking forward to more events of its kind.
“So, we wanted to end our DJ skate night series with a big party just to go all out. And we realized that Mardi Gras was a Tuesday so ended up working out really well and we moved our DJ skate night to Tuesday. We just wanted to celebrate the end of DJ Skate Night in general.” said Rachel Zeiger, the Special Events Manager at SBVPA.
While the event was initially expected to draw a little more than 20 people, event organizers estimated that more than 70 community members were in attendance.
"We’re just really excited to how it turned out because it’s our first Mardi Gras. We have to continue this in the future." said Zeiger.
