Community says goodbye to longtime Clay Township Fire Marshal, David Cherrone
GRANGER, Ind. -- On Monday, the public was allowed to pay their respects to David Cherrone, longtime member of the Clay Township Fire Department.
Cherrone passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 19th at the age of 72.
Clay Township Fire’s longest tenured member, Cherrone retired as the station’s Fire Marshal in 2022 after 52 years with the station.
His colleagues, friends and family all said goodbye during a public memorial service after the visitation. A service bell signaling the end of shift was also rang in his honor.
The fire department hopes that the many programs Cherrone started in his 52 years at Clay will go on, especially the “Pink Heals” truck, which Cherrone would drive through the community to support women battling cancer and cancer survivors.
ABC57 News sends their heartfelt condolences to the Cherrone family and thanks David for his tireless efforts to better the Michiana community.
