Congressman Upton comments on airstrikes in Syria

Congressman Fred Upton, (R)- St. Joseph, issued a statement today in support of Monday night's airstrikes against the terror group ISIS. The attacks were conducted in Syria, on 14 different targets, and involved the help of several other countries, including the United States, Bahrain, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

Last week, Upton supported a House funding bill that authorizes the Pentagon to train and equip Syrian rebels in the fight against ISIS.

On Monday night's airstrikes, Upton said:

"The President's effort to confront ISIS had to happen sooner than later. I supported the bipartisan effort last week to help arm and train moderate opposition forces and I am glad a number of Arab nations participated in last night's attacks, as they should have. ISIS is clearly a threat and has to be dealt with."

The U.S. also attacked eight different Al Qaeda targets, which U.S. Central Command claims were involved in, "imminent attack plotting against the United States and Western interests."
