Construction came to a screeching halt Tuesday in South Bend -- due to a gas leak!
Around 11 a.m. on Tuesday, crews hit a gas line located at the new St. Joseph County Ducomb Center on Lathrop Avenue, near the airport.
People in the area told ABC 57 there was a strong odor of gas, but the South Bend Fire Department says it was not a high concern because the wind was blowing, and there is not much traffic on Lathrop.
"It’s in a pretty remote area. It’s in a construction site with nothing really around it. So yeah, traffic can go through. So were fine right now,” said Captain Tom Pennino.
The St Joseph County Ducomb Center is a new state correctional and parole facility.
