City of Elkhart ELKHART, Ind. -- The City of Elkhart has announced that construction is set to begin on Bristol Street from April through November as a part of a state-led effort to reduce accidents and improve overall safety along the corridor.
Historically, Bristol Street has been an inconsistent roadway, with sections where sidewalks are incomplete or missing, and areas where the number of lanes abruptly shifts. These conditions have contributed to accidents, safety concerns and less predictable travel for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.
This project will address those issues by widening the roadway, adding a new multi-use path for walking and biking, and creating a more uniform, urbanized design to support safer, smoother travel for everyone.
From May through August, the westbound lanes will be open, followed by the eastbound lanes opening from August through November. Once completed, Bristol Street will feature three lanes, including a dedicated center turn lane to help improve traffic flow.
