SOUTH BEND, Ind. - DLZ Indiana, LLC, was awarded an engineering services contract to move forward with a project to build a new South Shore Line train station at the South Bend International Airport.

The South Bend Airport Realignment project is expected to provide a safer and more efficient route for travelers between South Bend and Chicago.

Among the project's plans are to move the train station from the airport terminal's east side to its west side, reducing travel time and eliminating up to 18 at-grade crossings.

Commuters can also expect a new and modern platform and waiting room at the train station.

These plans will cut down the travel time between South Bend and Chicago to 90 minutes.

Construction could start as early as fall/winter 2024.
