Controversial play comes to Michiana

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – A controversial play was brought to center stage Sunday at the Century Center. The play "In the Next Room" tells the story of women in the Victorian era who had female hysteria.

The controversy stems from the "sexual invention" the women used to treat their disorder.

ABC 57 was not allowed into the play because of copyright issues but we did have a chance to talk with the director who thinks it is vital for Michiana to embrace this type of culture. "It's a play that should be done in South Bend. It's a 2010 Pulitzer finalist, 2010 Tony-nominated, and Sara Ruhl is one of the most acclaimed new playwrights in the area,” says director James Geisel.
