Corewell Health offers free program to prevent diabetes

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Mich. - Corewell Health is offering a free program to prevent diabetes.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, one in three American adults has prediabetes.

Corewell Health wants to engage in a group discussion to talk about healthy eating, developing a physical activity routine and to problem solve how to make healthy lifestyle changes.

The program encourages making healthy lifestyle changes--ones you don't have to do alone.

Corewell Health's community health program specialist, Traci Kuhn wants people to take control of their own health and well-being.

"Small changes can add up and make a big difference," she said. "Modest modifications can considerably reduce the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes."

The free and year-long Diabetes Prevention Program starts September 11. A doctor's referral is not required.

It takes place at Lakeland Center for Outpatient Service (3900 Hollywood Road, St. Joseph, MI).

If you're interested, register at Spectrum Health Lakeland or call (269) 556-7171.
