Corewell Health opens new substance use treatment and education center

ST. JOSEPH, Mich. -- Corewell Health announced the opening of a new substance use treatment and education center in Berrien County on Monday.

According to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, Berrien County ranks 17th out of the state's 83 counties in vulnerability to substance use.

Corewell Health already offers services in Niles and Benton Harbor, and officials say the goal of the new center is to provide equitable, compassionate, and comprehensive addiction care with empathy and understanding.

“Increasing access to substance use treatment and recovery services is incredibly important for Southwest Michigan,” Melinda Gruber, vice president for medical groups and rehabilitation at Corewell Health South, said. “By improving access, reducing barriers and promoting life-saving treatment options, we are committed to making a positive impact on the lives of those in need.”

Corewell Health offers assessment and treatment planning, medications for substance use disorders, counseling, care coordination, referrals, and harm reduction services by appointment or walk-in.

  • Corewell Health Center for Wellness - 133 W. Main St. in Benton Harbor - Monday -1- 5 p.m., Tuesday to Friday - 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Corewell Health Care Center - 42 N. St. Joseph Ave., Suite 300 in Niles - Monday to Thursday: 8 a.m. to noon and 1-5 p.m., Friday - 8 a.m.to noon
