Council tables smoking ban ordinance for 60 days

SOUTH BEND, Ind.-- Around 200 people showed up to the South Bend Common Council meeting on Monday to voice their opinions regarding a smoking ban in local bars and clubs.

The Common Council decided to table the decision until July 14th so they can make time for further discussion.

The Smoke Free Ordinance would prohibit people from smoking inside bars within the city limits.

Several bar owners are upset about this ban because they believe they will shut down if this does not become a county-wide ordinance.

Dozens of citizens who are members of the "Smoke Free St. Joe" coalition also took to the stand to discuss the negative health effects of tobacco.
