County auditor candidate's house catches fire

NEW PARIS, Ind. -- New Paris and Benton Township fire crews responded to a fire at Elkhart County auditor republican candidate Jim Erb's house.

It happened around 3a.m. Wednesday morning on 18000 of First Street in New Paris.

Erb and his family made out of the home safely thanks to their working smoke alarms.

Firefighters couldn't determine the cause of the fire quite yet.

Erb says he believes the fire was an arson following the county auditor election.

The fire marshal is expected to come further investigate the cause later today.
