County clerk accused of overpaying county employees resigns

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The Elkhart County Republican Party announced a caucus for the vacancies of Concord Township Assessor and Clerk of the Circuit Court, after the resignation of Christopher Dickinson and Christopher Anderson.

Anderson was indicted by an Elkhart grand jury alongside Chief Deputy Clerk Carol Smith for official misconduct and criminal conversion.

Anderson and Smith are accused of paying county employees more hours than they worked.

Anderson's trial is currently scheduled for Jan. 12, 2026.

The Elkhart County GOP announced the caucus to fill the vacant positions will take place on Jan. 28, 2026.

The caucus for the Township Assessor will start at 6 p.m. Officials say eligible Concord Township Republican precinct committee chairs have been notified via official means.

The caucus for the Clerk of the Circuit Court will start at 6:30 p.m., or at the conclusion of preceding caucus. Eligible Elkhart County Republican precinct committee chairs have been notified via official means.
