County offering free flu shots to children

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Flu season is reaching its peak and the Saint Joseph County Health Department is stepping in to help local kids by offering free flu vaccines.

The free vaccines are available to school aged children who are uninsured or underinsured, with no chronic health issues.

For the past 5 years, the health department has offered the free vaccine program in the schools.

This year, the Saint Joseph County Health Department had a surplus of the flu-mist nasal spray and decided to add this extra opportunity for kids to get vaccinated.

"We have other lots of the VFC flu mist that will be available when we're done, its just we had some that was going to expire in the near future lets get it in some kids and protect them,” said  Nicholas Molchan-Administrator St Joseph County Heath Department.

The clinic is open from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the South Bend clinic on Jefferson Boulevard.
