CASS COUNTY, Mich. -- A couple was extricated from their vehicle Monday night on Kingsbury Road in LaGrange Township after crashing while avoiding a deer in the roadway.

The Cass County Sheriff's Office reports the crash occurred around 7:30 p.m.

Authorities say the couple, a 76-year-old man and 71-year-old woman both from Cassopolis, were traveling east on Kingsbury Road when a deer ran out in front of them.

The report states the man swerved the car to avoid hitting the deer, leading him to lose control.

The vehicle then left the road and overturned before striking a tree.

Deputies say the couple became entrapped and emergency personnel had to extricate them.

The couple were taken to Memorial Hospital for minor injuries.
