Court staff returns to work, courthouse still closed to public

It has been nearly two days since two Berrien County court workers were shot and killed in the midst of their work day during court proceedings at the Berrien Court Courthouse.

On Wednesday morning, court staff will return to work. Outside the courthouse, a memorial is set up to remember the two officers killed, Joe Zangaro and Ron Kienzle. There are flowers, balloons, and mementos to honor the two fallen officers.

Both Berrien County courthouses in St. Joseph and Niles will still be closed to the public Wednesday. The County Health Department at the Niles location will be open Thursday. Grief counselors are available for anyone who needs them.

The funeral for Joe Zangaro will be held Friday at the Mendel Center on the Lake Michigan College campus. We do not have finalized funeral information for Ron Kienzle yet.
