GOSHEN, Ind. -- A motorcyclist was killed in an accident on CR 17 at CR 18 involving two trucks, an SUV and a motorcycle Tuesday afternoon.
21-year-old Logan Nelson, of Elkhart was pronounced dead on the scene, following the messy crash.
Investigators say one of the drivers of the pickup trucks ran a red light, hitting the other two vehicles and Nelson.
Nelson was wearing a helmet.
But this is not the first time the intersection has seen serious crashes. This intersection is notorious for accidents involving speed and drivers not paying attention or following the rules.
"There are quite few crashes at this intersection. Mostly it's failure to yield type crashes, where it's somebody turning in front of somebody else," explains Lt. Casey Lehman with the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department. "People don't pay attention to the markings or the lights."
Lt. Lehman also said that with nicer weather, comes more traffic, especially motorcycle traffic, and people need to be extra aware.
"Put your phones down and pay attention." he adds.
CR17 was shut down for several hours after the accident for the investigation and cleanup.
The crash happened just before 2 p.m. and the road reopened around 4:15 p.m.
