ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- Lincolnway West at Ironwood reopened to traffic late Monday afternoon. It was shut down for several hours Monday after a suspect who led police on a pursuit crashed, according to Mishawaka Police.
Around 10:45 a.m., a wanted suspect was located in the 800 block of E. Douglas Road in a pickup truck.
Even though his truck was surrounded, he fled the scene and damaged three police vehicles, police said.
The pursuit continued south and at one point the truck hit two vehicles at a McDonald's, police said.
The suspect's vehicle ran over stop sticks on Logan, police said.
“People trying to flee and they don’t have any concern for people’s safety except to get away," said resident Richard O'Grady.
The vehicle crashed into the wall in the westbound lanes of Lincolnway West, just west of the intersection with Ironwood Road.
“You know you never know where it’s gonna happen and usually it doesn’t end up good," said O'Grady.
The roadway has been closed since the crash.
Police said the suspect had two felony warrants.
The Fatal Crash Team is investigating.
