Crash between vehicle, ambulance injures two

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. – Two people were injured in a crash involving two vehicles, one of which was an ambulance, on Thursday afternoon, the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office reported.

At 2:42 p.m., deputies were called to the intersection of State Road 19 and County Road 28 for reports of a crash.

A 2018 Dodge Grand Caravan was stopped in the northbound lane of S.R. 19, waiting to turn left onto C.R. 28.

A 2018 Freightliner ambulance was traveling north on S.R. 19 in emergency mode attempting to pass the Grand Caravan on the left.

The Grand Caravan turned left into the ambulance as the ambulance was passing the Grand Caravan, reports said.

Two people in the ambulance were injured in the crash with back pain and ankle pain. They continued on to a local hospital by ambulance.

The driver of the Grand Caravan was issued a citation for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle causing injury.

The driver of the Grand Caravan was not injured in the crash.
