CASS COUNTY, Mich. -- Cass County Sherriff's Department says that M-51 is reopen after a traffic crash involving a tanker truck near Peavine Street.

The collision caused the tanker to overturn, spilling an estimated 500 to 750 gallons of unleaded gasoline, just south of the city of Dowagiac.

As a precaution, residents within a 1000-foot radius of the scene were evacuated.

Michigan State Police is managing the incident with assistance from the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), hazardous materials (HazMat) response teams, and other local public safety partners. 

There is no immediate danger to the public.
