Crash totals across Michiana following winter weather chaos

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Wednesday into Thursday saw a large number of crashes due to the influx of snow throughout the day and into the night.

There were nearly 400 reports of crashes, property damage cases, or slide-offs reported between Wednesday and Thursday morning.

South Bend Police Department:

  • 10 a.m.-10 p.m.: 37 crashes
  • 10 p.m.-10 a.m.: 23 crashes

St. Joseph County Police Department

  • 10 a.m.-10 p.m.:52 crashes/slide-offs
  • 10 p.m.-10 a.m.: 39 crashes/slide-offs

Elkhart County Sheriff's Office

  • 10 a.m.-10 p.m.: 44 property damage crashes (includes vehicle vs. vehicle), one injury
  • 10 p.m.-10 a.m.: six property damage crashes
  • Two hit-and-runs, one with injury

Elkhart Police Department:

  • 10 a.m.-10 p.m.: 13 non-injury crashes, three with injuries, eight slide offs/disables vehicles
  • 10 p.m.-10 a.m.: two non-injury crashes, two slide-offs/disabled vehicles
  • Three hit-and-runs without injury

Goshen Police Department:

  • 10 a.m.-10 p.m.: nine crashes
  • 10 p.m.-10 a.m.: zero crashes

Marshall County Sheriff's Department:

  • 10 a.m.-10 p.m.: 33 slide-offs

La Porte County Sheriff's Office:

  • 10 a.m.-10 p.m.: 22 crashes
  • 10 p.m.-10 a.m.: five crashes

Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department:

  • 10 a.m.-10 p.m.: 50 property damage crashes (this includes vehicle vs. vehicle), five personal injury crashes, five unknown
  • 10 p.m.-10 a.m.: six property damage crashes, one personal injury crash, two unknown

Warsaw Police Department:

  • 10 a.m.-10 p.m.: 24 crashes
  • 10 p.m.-10 a.m.: two crashes
