Crews battle flames at South Bend vacant home

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Firefighters scrambled to save a vacant South Bend home as flames shot through the roof of the attic.

It happened around 2:15 a.m. Thursday near the intersection of West Jefferson and Illinois Street.

ABC57 News was first at the scene while firefighters we're still trying to put out the smoke coming off the roof.

Firefighters said that when crews got to the fire, it was shooting out of the left side of the house and the rear.

About 24 firefighters came to put it out. and they were able to do it in a fast and efficient manner.

No injuries were reported and no one was inside the vacant home when it caught fire. Investigators haven't determined what started the fire.
