One person killed in crash on the Indiana Toll Road in La Porte County

LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. —  One person was killed and two were injured in a crash on the Indiana Toll Road Friday morning.

Troopers responded to the crash in the westbound lanes of the Toll Road at the 50 mile marker around 7:15 a.m.

The preliminary investigation revealed a Hyundai driven by Haifeng Yang, 36, of South Bend, was traveling westbound when Yang lost control of the vehicle.

A semi, also traveling westbound, could not avoid a collision with the Hyundai and struck it in the rear passenger side.

Yang was seriously injured and transported to Memorial Hospital.

His front seat passenger, 62-year-old Qinglian Li of Shanghai, suffered life-threatening injuries.

His rear seat passenger, Jucai Li, 63, of Shanghai, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 2-year-old in the back seat was securely fastened in a child seat and was not injured.

This crash remains under investigation and alcohol or drugs are not suspected as factors in this crash.
