CHICAGO -- Chicago's own Robert Provost was selected as the 267th Pope of the Catholic Church on Thursday and not long after, rumors began to swirl that the pontiff was a Cubs fan.
The chatter got so loud that Wrigley Field proclaimed, "Hey, Chicago! He's a CUBS fan!" on the iconic marquee Thursday afternoon.
Later that day, Provost's brother sat for an interview and appeared to clear the air, telling reporters and the world that he and his brother are indeed White Sox fans.
The family did grow up on the city's South Side.
Provost, now known as Leo XIV has yet to set the record straight, one way or the other.
