Cubs snag playoff win against West Michigan, Ricketts throws first pitch
The South Bend Cubs beat the West Michigan Whitecaps 6-2 in a must-win game 2 Thursday night at Four Winds Field in South Bend.]
The Cubbies were playing a win-or-go-home playoff game after a disappointing loss on the road against the Whitecaps Wednesday.
Cubs players say they are happy to be playing at Four Winds Field again.
“To play at home is always an advantage in front of your fans. Come here and hopefully win two games,” says player Vimael Machin.
Chicago Cubs owner, Tom Ricketts, threw out the first pitch and watched the game from the owner's suite with South Bend Cubs Owner Andrew Berlin.
Ricketts says he’s very impressed with South Bend’s atmosphere.
"I traveled through all the minor leagues and I've been to all of our affiliates, almost every year until the last couple years when things got too busy, and this really stands out, and it stands out not just because of the quality of the facility, which is obviously first-class, just the quality of the game experience for the fans and everything that the organization does for the city, I think it's tremendous,” says Ricketts.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. Friday night, in a win-or-go home game 3 at Four Winds Field.
