Dangerous Outlook: Strong currents, high waves along Lake Michigan

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. --- If your weekend plans are taking you to the shoreline — be prepared for some not-so-great swimming conditions.

Officials are warning of a dangerous outlook on Lake Michigan Friday night into Saturday.

The National Weather Service is advising beach-goers to be aware of strong currents that could bring waves of up to six feet.

The worst of it will be Friday but NWS is still recommending folks stay away from piers this weekend because of the potential for strong currents and high waves.

Just over the fourth of July weekend, the Great Lakes Surf Project reported a surge in the number of drownings on Lake Michigan, reporting six drownings and near-drownings in a 48 hour period.
