Day Road home damaged in fire

Firefighters responded to a house fire on Day Road in Mishawaka Friday afternoon.

The fire happened at a home in the 14000 block of Day Road around 3:45 p.m.

The residents were not home when the fire broke out.

"It does not appear to be suspicious. We're trying to find the people a place to stay tonight, which is going to be kind of tough on a home football weekend," said Battalion Chief Al Kirsits.

Firefighters said the fire was contained to the first floor.
