Deadly Benton Township fire investigated as homicide

BENTON TOWNSHIP, Mich.-- A Saturday morning fire is being investigated as a homicide after first responders pronounced a male dead at the scene. 

The Benton Township Police Department and Fire Department were dispatched to the 1200 block of Coolidge Avenue for a report of a structure fire. Michigan State Police also responded. 

Firefighters entered the home and found a male unconscious inside. He was later pronounced dead after being removed from the home. 

Police said the circumstances of the fire are "suspicious" and therefore being investigated as a homicide.
