Deputies: $30,000 worth of controlled substances found in Benton Harbor residence

Two people have been arrested in Benton Harbor after $30,000 worth of controlled substances were discovered inside a residence.

Deputies from the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department executed a search warrant at 525 Columbus Avenue Wednesday at approximately 7:15 a.m. following information that illegal substances were allegedly being sold at the residence.

During the search, it is reported that deputies located about 92 grams of heroin, 188 grams of crack cocaine, three loaded semi-automatic pistols, one of which had an altered serial number, and extra ammunition.

Scales, packaging materials, and several cell phones were also located inside the residence.

Deputies say they found $380 which supported the allegation of sales.

According to deputies, the 37-year-old resident of the apartment has prior drug convictions on his record as well as his 28-year-old accomplice.

The residence is located within 1,000 feet from a school.

Both suspects have been lodged at the Berrien County Jail.

Names are withheld until after arraignment.
