ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. - Deputies have confirmed that a fatal crash took place after midnight on Sunday, killing one.

Deputies were called to the scene of Bittersweet and Cleveland Road for a single-vehicle injury crash. When they arrived, first responders found a car crushed against a utility pole and one person trapped inside the car.

Medics were able to get the person out. They attempted life-saving measures but were unsuccessful.

Zackery Grenet, a 24-year-old of South Bend, was pronounced dead at the scene, police say.

Witnesses say they saw the vehicle hit the roundabout on Cleveland and Bittersweet before hitting the utility pole. Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash.
