Deputies release identity of semi driver killed in fiery crash

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- Deputies have released the identity of the semi driver who died in a fiery crash on I-94 on October 11.

The driver has been identified as 65-year-old David Monroe of Holt, Michigan, according to the Berrien County Sheriff's Office.

Monroe was driving in the westbound lanes of I-94 when his semi struck a guard rail, ran off the road, struck a tree and caught fire, according to deputies.

First responders were unable to get Monroe out of the vehicle and he was found deceased inside his semi, reports said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
