LAGRANGE COUNTY, Ind. – Many fireworks displays across Michiana have been cancelled, but organizers in LaGrange County are moving forward with a huge celebration Friday night.
The fireworks will be loaded into a barge and fired off on Big Long Lake.
Spectators will be allowed to view the display from their boats on the lake or from the surrounding area and they are being encouraged to maintain social distancing.
“I think many of the communities that have decided to cancel their fireworks are going to make an impact on us,” said Gerry Turner, the Vice President of the Big Long Lake Association. “You know this is such a gorgeous area. But the best part of the area is the people here. And they’re very patriotic. We have a lot of veterans. I’m extremely happy to see that we’re going to go through with this fireworks display and honor the veterans that live in the area.”
Organizers have been setting things up since 9 a.m. on Friday and the fireworks celebration is scheduled to begin at 10 p.m.
