DETROIT -- Detroit cops started their new shifts on Monday. The police force will be switching to 12 hour shifts.
The police force had previously worked eight hour shifts.
The city believes the new shifts will cut overtime costs and give officers longer weekends for rest.
The Detroit chief of police ordered the shift change for police last month.
