Dieter proposes new plan for more resource officers

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- At least one local leader wants an armed officer in all of the city's public schools.

Common Councilman Derek Dieter plans to propose a resolution next month to get an armed resource officer in every single school.

Right now, there is one in each high school and four that split their time inside middle schools but Dieter believes the city can do more to protect students.

The plan would cost somewhere around $3 million but Dieter believes it's money well spent on peace of mind for parents and insurance that kids are safe at school.
