Diner fire sparks on South Bend's East side

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – A fire sparked at a South Bend diner on the East side, causing traffic to be blocked off for two hours Tuesday morning.

Fire crews were dispatched around 5:30 to Jeannie’s House restaurant on the corner of Tywckenham and Mishawaka Avenue, catty-corner from John Adams High School.

Flames ripped through the roof of the restaurant. Workers and customers were inside when the fire started, but got out safely. Firefighters rushed to put out the flames to reopen the busy area for traffic as soon as possible.

At this time the intersection is reopen. Crews are still investigating on what caused the fire.
