'Dirty Roots Community Initiative' pushes new boundaries fighting period poverty
ELKHART, Ind. -- ABC57's Sidney Moore spoke with Lisa Morgan, the creator of Dirty Roots Pantry, an at home pantry that supplies hygiene, food, pet supplies, and period supplies for those in need.
After opening the pantry just a few weeks ago, it's already blossomed into a bigger initiative, working to end period poverty in Elkhart County.
Recently Morgan said she's been pushing to make the Dirty Roots Community Initiative a non-profit to help secure more funding to provide more relief to the community.
Currently there are around 12 community boxes that are sponsored to help better cover the community grounds. Morgan says with how much this pantry has grown, it needs to be restocked daily, and the community is helping keep the shelves full with an influx of donations.
This barrier-free pantry is at the end of her driveway on Independence Street in Elkhart, with lights on to make it accessible 24 hours a day.
