Dominant performance grants Hidalgo her fourth rookie of the week award
NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- The Irish are only six weeks into their season, and star freshman Hannah Hidalgo has earned her fourth ACC Rookie of the Week award after a dominant performance over Purdue.
Hidalgo posted 23 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists and 7 steals in Notre Dame's 76-39 win over the Boilermakers on Sunday.
This is Hidalgo's eighth game of the year with at least 20 points, passing Skylar Diggins-Smith for the most 20-point games as a rookie for Notre Dame since at least 1999.
Hidalgo is scoring leader of the ACC with 23.6 points per game and leads the nation in steals with 6.1 per game.
With her fourth Rookie of the Week honor, Hidalgo has now passed Ruth Riley-Hunter who had three her freshman year in 1998. Hidalgo joins Diggins-Smith and Jewell Lloyd at four. The record is six, held by Jacqueline Batteast, Sonia Citron, Alicia Ratay and Brianna Turner, who all went on to earn conference Rookie/Freshman of the Year honors.
