Donate blood this week in honor of a late Winamac graduate
WINAMAC, Ind. — Calling all current or potential blood donors - you can donate this week in honor of a late Winamac graduate.
Haley Fox was diagnosed with cancer her freshman year of college in Indianapolis.
During her treatments, she relied heavily on blood transfusions made possible by donors.
She had an amazing support system made up of friends, family and classmates.
That group still supports Haley, hosting blood drives and other initiatives in her honor.
Her family started a non-profit, "Haley’s Random Acts of Kindness". It encourages people to make kind gestures towards others to spread more positivity into the world, something Haley loved to do.
A scholarship was also created in Haley’s memory. The Haley Fox Memorial Scholarship is given out once a year to a graduate from Winamac High School, where Haley went to school.
This week’s blood drive in Haley’s honor is set for Wednesday at the Knights of Columbus in Winamac.
From 11:30 to 5:30P.M, you can give blood and receive a free Shark Week T-Shirt from the American Red Cross, who are co-hosting the drive.
The blood drive is timely, as the Red Cross notes that we’re currently in the middle of what’s known as "trauma season".
It’s a stretch of time where more people tend to seek emergency care, and the demand for blood is higher.
If you can’t make it out to Winamac for the drive, please consider finding a local blood center near you to donate.
