DOWAGIAC, Mich. -- On Wednesday, Dowagiac Mayor Patrick Bakeman released an open letter to Hyperscale Data CEO Will Horne concerning Hyperscale's press releases about data center operations expanding in Dowagiac.

In the letter, Bakeman noted the "vague" Hyperscale Data public announcements released in 2025 and 2026 about its intention to "greatly expand [their] data center operations in the City of Dowagiac" and to purchase "an unnamed parcel of land in Southwest Michigan".

Bakeman went on to lay out expectations for Horne and Hyperscale Data. The first of these was "Immediately announce which property you claim to be purchasing" so as to reduce "needless speculation" in Dowagiac.

The second of these was to submit plans to the City of Dowagiac within 45 days of the letter, so the city can address concerns raised by Hyperscale Data's announcements.
