Dowagiac Police arrest suspect who threatened to shoot clinic workers

The Dowagiac Police Department arrested a 53-year-old man they say threatened employees at the Borgess Lee Medical Group Thursday morning.

Thursday morning, a medical assistant at the clinic received a phone call from a patient who was upset with the clinic.

During the conversation, the patient allegedly made threats to shoot and kill employees of the clinic and said he would be heading to the clinic to carry out the threats, according to Dowagiac Police.

Police placed the clinic and Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital on lockdown with officers posted at both locations.

While officers were securing the buildings, other officers were attempting to locate the suspect.

During the initial phone call, the suspect allegedly said he was going to visit a relative at The Timbers before carrying out his threat.

The suspect was located at The Timbers and taken into custody without incident.

The suspect and his vehicle were searched but no weapon was located, according to police.

The 53-year-old man was arrested for making a terrorist threat and threatening telephone communication.

The suspect was taken to the Cass County jail.

He is expected to be arraigned Friday.
