Dowagiac Union High School student arrested for bringing guns to school

DOWAGIAC, Mich. – A 17-year-old Dowagiac Union High School student is in the Cass County jail after being arrested for allegedly bringing guns and a knife to the school on Wednesday.

According to police somebody told the school resource officer that a student had brought guns and ammunition to the school.  Officers from the Dowagiac Police Department and the Cass County Sheriff’s Department took the student into custody and searched his car.  They found a rifle, shotgun, knife and bullets in the car.

The student is facing two charges of carrying a weapon with lawful intent, which means police believe he planned to use the weapons against somebody.  He’s also facing three charges of possession of a weapon in a weapons free school zone and two felony firearms charges.

As of late Wednesday night the students name is being withheld pending a decision on whether or not to charge him as an adult.
