ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. – Deputy Health Officer for St. Joseph County, Mark Fox discusses more vaccine rollout details.
ABC57’s Brian Conybeare asking Dr. Fox about the government not making the operation warp speed goal of 20 million vaccines by New Year; if there is a major difference between the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines; has reinfection rates in St. Joseph county been rising since the holidays; and whether or not the vaccines will work on the new variant of COVID-19?
When asked about the major difference between Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, Dr. Fox said they’re quite similar but there is one extra benefit to the Moderna vaccine.
“They’re both, in efficacy, 94 and 95 percent effective based on the clinical trial data and the side effect profile is pretty similar as well,” said Dr. Fox. “One of the differences is there is some suggestions in the data on the Moderna vaccine – both of them have been shown to reduce the incidents of symptomatic disease – but the Moderna vaccine may also reduce the risk of transmission of the virus to other people and that would be an important benefit…”
