ST. JOSEPH, Mich. – A Benton Harbor resident was arrested on Monday after allegedly driving through a building and damaging it, the St. Joseph Public Safety Department reported.

At 7:33 a.m., officers were called to the 500 block of Renaissance Drive for a vehicle inside the building.

The building houses several different companies.

When officers arrived, they found a dark-colored SUV that had driven through the front window of the building and was inside.

Two other areas of the building were damaged and the driver was not found at the scene.

The investigation eventually led to the arrest of a 34-year-old Benton Harbor woman, who was taken to the Berrien County Jail for the following charges:

  • Malicious destruction of property $20,000 or more
  • Fail to report the accident
  • Operating without security

There was no direct threat to any of the businesses in the building, police reported.
