Driver arrested after leading police in pursuit through 2 counties

LA GRANGE COUNTY, Ind. -- A South Bend man was arrested after he allegedly led law enforcement on a pursuit through two counties, according to the La Grange County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies with La Grange County were contacted for assistance Thursday afternoon after a blue Honda Civic failed to stop for a traffic stop in Elkhart County.

The pursuit continued on SR 120 into La Grange at 2:41 p.m.

Tire deflation devices were deployed successfully at several locations along SR 120.

The Honda’s tires were destroyed, and the vehicle continued eastbound on its rims, at speeds of approximately 40 miles per hour, deputies said.

The Honda proceeded eastbound through the town of Howe, before traveling into a field.

The muddy conditions of the field brought the Honda to a stop.

The driver, Jack Andrew Thompson of South Bend, was taken into custody on preliminary charges of felony resisting law enforcement with a motor vehicle and felony criminal recklessness.

Middlebury Police, Elkhart Police, Bristol Police, LaGrange Police, Topeka Police, and Wolcottville Police assisted in the incident.
